The Role:
Working for the Law Society in the Public Affairs team requires someone with energy, creativity and dedication, in this role especially. You will be responsible for drafting speeches for various senior stakeholders, under the Public Affairs Manager’s supervision, including the president and chief executive. Your role will also require building relationships with external stakeholders who are crucial for the Society to deliver its objectives. Therefore, stakeholder management a key skill required in this role. This is a truly exciting role for someone with a love of writing, relationship building, a flare for creativity and an interest in the law and politics.

Essential

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

Degree in politics, law or similar discipline.

Experience in speechwriting.

Proven experience in a policy, public affairs or communications environment or have worked in a related communications activity (press office, ministerial private office).

Research experience and the ability to communicate complex information in a clear and impactful way.

Excellent communication skills both oral and written.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and persuade people of various seniority both internally and externally to the Law Society.

Ability to understand a wide range of issues and to work both at a strategic level and to grasp essential detail quickly.

Desirable

A knowledge of the legal sector, and the public policy issues that influence it.

Experience of writing published materials (articles, newsletters, blogs).

Experience of working closely with the senior leadership of an organisation (President/Chair/ministerial/CEO level).
