Our Legal & Enforcement team deals with proceedings before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, the High Court and other civil and criminal courts. It also delivers advice on legal and evidential matters to other functions across the organisation. Your role will involve providing high quality advice on your own matters, developing case strategy in complex or multiple cases and mentoring and coaching other team members. Proactivity is important in maintaining an overview of your own matters and those conducted by colleagues in order to ensure consistency of approach and co-ordination.

You may be required to make formal decisions upon evidential and public interest tests. Where you become involved in conducting disciplinary or other proceedings, you will need to act in the public interest bearing in mind proportionality and risk. You may be required to conduct proceedings yourself or instruct external lawyers and work closely with them.

Essential

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

Solicitor or Barrister

Experience of conducting substantial litigation, or providing high quality legal advice in a regulatory environment

Experience of mentoring and coaching other professionals

Extensive knowledge of law, framework and rules within the regulation of legal services

Practical experience of complex case analysis and legal drafting in a contentious or regulatory environment

Communicates effectively at senior levels

Track record of leading and delivering solutions, taking accountability for the successful resolution of very complex issues

Pro-active approach to cases and projects

Knowledge of SRA objectives, key result areas and how to connect this with the political landscape

Understanding of regulatory and operational risk

Resilient and able to work in a constantly changing environment

Experience of advocacy in courts or tribunals
