Policy Assistant (Solicitor Judges and Advocacy)

 What’s in it for you?

  • Help develop products, services and events for solicitor-advocates and aspiring solicitor judges
  • Manage membership of the Solicitor Judges Division
  • Help create policy responses to the challenges faced by solicitors undertaking advocacy and seeking judicial appointment

The role:

A growing number of solicitors are interested in undertaking advocacy, including in the higher courts, and in applying for judicial appointments.

The Society has a Solicitor Judges Division to provide support for those seeking judicial roles, and has developed products and services for them and for solicitors undertaking advocacy.

You will be responsible for undertaking the administration of the Solicitor Judges Division, processing membership applications and keeping the database up to date. You will work with a supervising policy adviser to commission and develop content for the website and newsletters for advocates and aspiring judges, and to provide events.

You will assist the policy adviser in undertaking policy analysis and development. One area this will cover is looking at the challenges facing solicitors seeking judicial appointment, and how the Society should respond. Another area is how to address concerns around the quality of advocacy.

What we’re looking for:

  • Knowledge of the issues covered by the post
  • Experience in processing personal information
  • Experience of developing products and services and organising events
  • Ability to develop creative policy ideas to help our members overcome the challenges they face in undertaking advocacy and seeking judicial appointment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Self-motivation and an ability to work with minimal supervision to prioritise work and meet deadlines

To apply, submit a CV and covering letter that clearly demonstrates how you meet the knowledge, skills and experience requirements of the role.

We offer an inclusive, supportive and friendly working environment and the chance to develop your career within a professional organisation. We are committed to the health and wellbeing of staff, helping everyone to strike a good balance between personal and professional life.

Additionally, we provide a generous flexible benefits package, including gym membership with a tax only cost, an excellent defined contribution pension scheme and an additional 3% of annual basic salary upon successful completion of probation.
