The role
Our General Counsel Directorate draws on its expertise in the law governing the SRA, legal drafting, problem solving and analytical thinking to provide a high quality service to the organisation. One of its key deliverables is working closely with colleagues to ensure that up to date legal principles and best practice in legal thinking are embedded across the organisation.
We are currently seeking to recruit an experienced Paralegal who is able to work independently at a high level to assist in the effective delivery of the teams objectives. This will involve you working closely with members of the team as well as colleagues in our Policy and Legal and Enforcement Directorates.
You will enjoy a varied role delivering a wide range of support to the team in order for it to meet its objectives. Your main responsibilities will include undertaking legal research, providing accurate summaries of caselaw and other legal and regulatory developments, assisting with the delivery of legal training, disseminating legal knowledge as well as providing high level administrative support.
You will also be responsible for performing key tasks such as general case preparation, proof reading documentation, bundling, minute taking and reviewing and updating knowledge and information held on relevant sites. You'll work under the supervision of knowledgeable members of the team to ensure that you quickly become self supporting and able to work without supervision. High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, ability to work flexibly and effective communication skills, including excellent drafting skills, are of utmost importance in this role.
What we are looking for
• Qualifying Law Degree or equivalent
• An enthusiastic and self motivated team player
• Significant experience of legal research and preparation of supporting documentation
• Someone who can critically analyse and pro-actively disseminate information to ensure the team can provide sound legal advice
• The ability to quickly identify salient points from detailed and complex information sources
and to draft case summaries or advice in a clear and concise manner
• A strong communicator at all levels with the ability to work at pace

Essential
Qualifying Law Degree or equivalent
Experience of legal documentation
To be able to work accurately, rapidly and consistently, with close attention to detail
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to use a range of IT packages - Excel / Word and familiarity with on line legal information services such as Lexis Nexis and Lawtel
Ability to critically analyse a range of evidence and options and make recommendations for change
Ability to work flexibly, autonomously and as a part of a team to ensure delivery of SRA’s objectives
Desirable
Familiarity with current legal regulation
Experience of working in a regulatory environment
