The role

The Legal and Enforcement directorate makes decisions to refer individuals and/or firms to the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal and handles subsequent disciplinary actions. Other key functions of the team also include conducting appeals to the SDT, giving general legal and technical advice to other areas of the SRA and the conduct of litigation.

We are currently looking to recruit a number of experienced Paralegals to join our Legal and Enforcement Team at an exciting time of operational change.

You will assist the department in delivering a range of legal activities and key tasks. From drafting documents, performing legal and records research, instructing and liaising with external panel solicitors and counsel, to having strong financial discipline including handling cost estimates and managing your own cases.

You will enjoy a varied role working closely with solicitors and barristers in the team to assist in the effective delivery of the teams objectives.

As a self starter you will quickly become self supporting and be able to work without supervision.
High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, ability to work flexibly and effective communication skills, including excellent drafting skills, are of utmost importance in this role.

Essential

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

Qualifying Law Degree or equivalent

Experience of dealing with legal documentation

Highly organised with the ability to prioritise

Resilient and able to work in a constantly changing environment

High level of literacy and numeracy and the ability to understand complex information

Able to work accurately, quickly and consistently, with close attention to detail

Able to communicate effectively

Able to use a range of IT packages – for example Excel/ Word

Conducting legal research (cases and statutes)

Able to critically analyse a range of evidence and options and make an appropriate recommendation

Able to work autonomously and as part of a team

Desirable

Familiar with current legal regulation

Membership of CILEX

Knowledge of how the SRA works

Experience of working in a regulatory environment
