Your role

Our Investigation and Supervision function is, for most firms, their main and continuing point of relationship with the SRA. Investigation & Supervision, therefore, plays a crucial role in managing our relationship with the regulated community. The team has a pivotal role in not only giving the public confidence in law firms but also in ensuring those firms work to the highest ethical and professional standards.

In the role of Regulatory Supervisor you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of cases of varying complexity, investigating reports about misconduct and regulatory breaches. Owning and managing your workload, you will prioritise and progress your cases according to risk with the added responsibility of updating the subject individual and complainant of your investigation. It is vital you keep investigations moving in line with KPIs and quality assurance measures.

You’ll collate and analyse information on reported conduct and regulatory issues in a timely manner to identify risks and decide what action, if any, should be taken. As well as experience in drafting complex documents, you’ll have a good understanding of the legal profession, and a proven ability of handling changing priorities and working well both autonomously, and as part of a team.

What we’re looking for

• Relevant regulatory experience from a comparable regulator, or law practice experience
• Excellent communicator, experienced in communicating verbally and in writing to different types of stakeholders
• Effective worker in a changing environment to make sound judgements based on clear rationale
• Flexibility, confidence in adjusting your priorities at short notice

Currently we have a number of permanent opportunities in the team.

Essential

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

Relevant regulatory experience from a comparable regulator ie professional services regulation or law practice experience.

Experienced in leading complex investigations and critically analysing information to make recommendations demonstrating risk-based judgement.

Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.

Highly organised and able to prioritise and progress cases effectively.

Experience of influencing and constructively challenging internal and external stakeholders.

Experience of working in an environment where priorities may change at short notice.

Willingness to learn and develop, taking on new responsibilities and adopting a flexible, pragmatic approach to work.

Experience of working well under direction and autonomously, and collaborating as part of a functional or cross functional team.

Desirable

Reasonable knowledge of the legal framework and the SRA’s principles / rules against which the key regulatory risks in the regulation of legal will be assessed.
