The role
As part of the Regulatory Management team you will be responsible for proactive engagement with some of the largest law firms principally in the City of London, many of which have a presence globally. This is a pivotal role in helping us to not only give the public confidence in some of the UK’s most high profile law firms – which will in turn, safeguard the reputation of the profession – but also challenge those law firms to ensure that they work to the highest ethical and professional standards.
As part of a dedicated team you will be the key contact with and responsible for your own portfolio of law firms. You will engage constructively with key individuals in the firms to understand the nature of their services and clients, what risks exist or are emerging and how they are being managed.
Bringing strong awareness and understanding of the legal profession and how firms operate you will collate, analyse and understand complex information and use your judgment to make the right regulatory judgments, always keeping in mind the legal and economic environment and taking a proactive approach when it comes to looking at potential, future risks.
You will need to have strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to challenge and influence key stakeholders at every level. We are also looking for strong analytical skills with the ability to work alone or as part of a team, and the excellent communication skills it takes to explain complex issues succinctly in a challenging environment.

Essential
Relevant experience in a law firm
A good awareness and understanding of the legal profession: the main participants in the market, firms' operating models, their processes and culture and financial and economic drivers
Evidence of devising, implementing and delivering against, effective strategic and operational plans and processes
Strong and credible personal and influencing skills, and evidence of networking effectively and building relationships with key and challenging stakeholders
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
Experience of operating autonomously and collaborating as part of cross functional team
An ability to analyse large amounts of complex information, make clear judgements based on relevant risk and business considerations, in order to identify key issues and appropriate solutions
Education to degree level or equivalent experience
Desirable
Good knowledge of the legal framework and the SRA’s principles / rules against which the key regulatory risks in the regulation of legal services are assessed
Willingness to learn and develop, taking on new responsibilities and adopting a flexible, pragmatic approach to work
