The Authorisation function of the SRA is one of the largest operational delivery directorates within the SRA. It mitigates risks to the regulatory objectives by:

• minimising the extent to which unsuitable firms or individuals are able to enter the regulated community, which protects consumers and helps to promote confidence in the legal services market;
• collecting information and intelligence about the regulated community, which is the starting point for effective regulation; and
• encouraging those firms applying to enter the legal services market, to manage their own risk.

It also provides a vehicle for the collection of the fees which fund regulatory activity.

There is an exciting opportunities to join Authorisation as a Team Leader. The role will sit within the Firm Based Authorisation (FBA) area of the Authorisation function. The successful role holder will be lead a casework team responsible for investigating and making decisions all types of firm based authorisation applications.

The Team Leader's role will be to directly line manage a team of staff in day to day activities, supporting, monitoring performance against service levels/competencies, and ensuring that objectives are achieved. The role requires effective handling of complaints in accordance with the SRA's internal complaints procedure. The successful candidate will positively and actively form part of the Authorisation management team, and be responsible for the delivery of team and function wide objectives. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to make recommendations for operational and policy changes and implement changes where appropriate.

Essential

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

Relevant academic qualification with related work experience or equivalent work experience

Strong leadership experience with a proven ability to plan, manage performance and to successfully coach and develop a team.

Detailed knowledge of SRA operations

Ability to influence and constructively challenge internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority.

Understanding of how own area supports SRA’s objectives

Track record of leading and owning the development and successful implementation of project plans to deliver results

Resilient and able to work in a constantly changing environment

Pro-active and makes decisions, even if difficult or unpopular.
