Client Protection is integral to ensuring that firms which are failing to deliver an appropriate service to the public are closed in an efficient and cost effective manner.

As an Intervention Officer, the role holder will be responsible for all aspects of the conduct of an intervention including setting up the intervention, attending the offices of the intervened firm to effect the intervention, instructing panel solicitors and other service providers, monitoring the progress of the intervention and the work of the providers to ensure compliance with our instructions and processes, managing and monitoring budgets, and dealing with litigation associated with the intervention including liaising with Legal where an intervention is challenged.

Your role will also include offering advice to other areas of Client Protection and beyond (in particular offering support and assistance to Supervision prior to the intervention), supporting discrete technical projects, developing policy and procedures, giving evidence in SRA litigation, supporting principles of good decision making and liaising with and offering advice to stakeholders outside the Directorate.

You will be a qualified solicitor or barrister and/or have strong regulatory experience. You will be a confident and strong communicator who can remain calm under pressure whilst being diplomatic and sensitive. Travel out of the office and outside normal office hours (including occasional overnight stays) will be required.

Essential

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

Solicitor or Barrister and/or strong regulatory experience

In depth knowledge of the statutory framework for interventions and a knowledge of Trusts Law

A good working knowledge and understanding of the Rules of Professional Conduct the Solicitors Accounts Rules and the Solicitors Practice Rules

A good working knowledge of the conveyancing process and Court processes and procedures

Detailed knowledge of SRA operations

Ability to interface with a variety of stakeholders and balance competing priorities

Understanding of regulatory and operational risk and its impact on the area

Track record of the development and successful implementation of project plans to deliver results

Resilient and able to work as part of a team in a constantly changing environment

The SRA is the independent regulator of solicitors and law firms in England and Wales, protecting consumers and supporting the rule of law and the administration of justice.
