The role

Reporting to Senior Technical Adviser, you will be responsible for providing high quality technical advice and support to the Authorisation directorate of the SRA.

Authorisation is the gatekeeper for entry into the legal profession. It authorises entry for both firms and individuals and validates that both firms and individuals can take on specific roles within law firms.

As a Technical Adviser you will use you use your extensive knowledge of the regulations and statute to review and produce excellent decisions and reports. You will coach and mentor staff, positively influencing their behaviours, attitudes to risk and their approach to regulation. You will also help to develop and provide training and technical / legal advice.

Working with the Senior Technical Adviser, you will also contribute to the development of the SRA’s policies and processes.

Essential

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

Relevant degree or equivalent experience, with related work experience

Knowledge of SRA objectives, key result areas and how to connect this with the political landscape

Communicates effectively at senior levels

Understanding of regulatory and operational risk and its impact upon the area

Track record of leading and delivering solutions, taking accountability for the successful resolution of very complex issues

Resilient and able to work in a constantly changing environment

Pro-active and makes decisions

The SRA is the independent regulator of solicitors and law firms in England and Wales, protecting consumers and supporting the rule of law and the administration of justice. We do this by overseeing all education and training requirements necessary to practise as a solicitor, licensing individuals and firms to practise, setting the standards of the profession and regulating and enforcing compliance against these standards.
