Our Legal and Enforcement team deals with proceedings before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, the High Court and other civil and criminal courts. It also delivers advice on legal and evidential matters to other functions across the organisation. The team is looking to appoint two new Legal Advisers on secondment/Fixed Term Contract for up to 12 months.

The Legal Adviser's role will involve providing high quality advice and dealing with all matters in an outcomes-focused and risk-based way.

You may be required to make formal decisions upon evidential and public interest tests. Where you become involved in conducting disciplinary or other proceedings, you will need to act in the public interest and ensure cases proceed in a timely way. You may be required to conduct proceedings yourself or instruct external lawyers and work closely with them.

Essential

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

Solicitor or Barrister

Experience of conducting litigation, or providing legal advice in a regulatory environment

Practical experience of case analysis and legal drafting in a contentious or regulatory environment

Knowledge of law, framework and rules within the regulation of legal services

Pro-active approach to cases and projects

Understands objectives of own area and how these impact upon the SRA's overall objectives

Resilient and able to work in a constantly changing environment

Desirable

Experience of advocacy in courts or tribunals
The SRA is the independent regulator of solicitors and law firms in England and Wales, protecting consumers and supporting the rule of law and the administration of justice. We do this by overseeing all education and training requirements necessary to practise as a solicitor, licensing individuals and firms to practise, setting the standards of the profession and regulating and enforcing compliance against these standards.
