Supervision is the SRA directorate responsible for the risk-based oversight of the entire regulated community and is central to the delivery of a risk-based, outcomes-focused approach to regulation.

The SRA are currently recruiting for two Managers within the Supervision function who will lead the SRA's Supervisory approach for all regulated firms other than the largest law firms (approximately 11,000 firms). The role holders will work with the Director of Supervision and the other managers within Supervision to develop the Supervision strategy and business plans, and deliver and monitor the SRA’s supervisory approach for regulated firms. Confident in managing a large team of highly specialised supervisors working on a national basis, the Supervision Managers will monitor the regulated community and legal landscape, and will ensure the effective and efficient use of Supervision resources whilst maintaining oversight of all regulated firms and maintaining the impact on the SRA’s objectives.

Essential

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

Extensive relevant regulatory experience from a professional services or risk based regulator and/or significant law practice experience. If only one present, evidence of strong ability to fully comprehend the other

Must be able to demonstrate a good legal and commercial awareness of the legal profession, with up to date and significant understanding of the external legal, political and economic influencing factors

Significant leadership experience and evidence of managing a large operation with skills in strategic planning and operational co-ordination

Experience of developing quality assurance and performance management frameworks to ensure appropriate decision making and the technical development of staff

Knowledge of the application of risk principles and the operation of risk management processes, including understanding of the SRA’s risk based regulatory framework

A credible individual with strong personal and influencing skills, and evidence of networking effectively and building relationships with key stakeholders

Outstanding communication skills and ability to communicate effectively internally and externally, including being a credible representative of the SRA

Evidence of working in a dynamic environment with ability to work under pressure with competing and changing priorities

Ability to demonstrate energy, confidence and flexibility, in the delivery of change

Proven experience of operating autonomously and collaborating as part of a functional or cross functional team

Desirable

Good knowledge of the legal framework and the SRA’s principles / rules against which the key regulatory risks in the regulation of legal services will be assessed

Strong financial analysis skills - ability to critically examine, interpret and challenge financial statements
