This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Publishing and E-learning professional to join the Commercial Affairs team at the Law Society. The role is responsible for the management and delivery of products that sit across four business units (publishing; online CPD training; forms; and retail) and run a £3 million turnover business.

Key duties:

New product development - Generate new business and build strong commercial relationships
with internal and external stakeholders to drive growth in the publishing, forms and online training businesses

Financial and strategic management and planning for a area of business with a £3 million turnover.

Publications - Develop and manage a commissioning strategy that will generate a pipeline of 25+ new books a year.

Online CPD training - Manage the Law Society's strategy for eLearning from creation to implementation to ensure it remains commercially successful and retains and enhances its position as the leading online CPD portal for solicitors.

Retailing and distribution - Manage the Law Society's strategy for online retailing/e-commerce facility from creation to implementation.

Essential

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

Educated to degree standard or equivalent.

Substantial experience in a legal or professional publishing and online training environment to include experience of direct line management of staff and project management, financial management and budget creation and forecasting.

Extensive experience commissioning and new product development.

Clear understanding of the full publishing process, and the means by which the process can be managed and controlled for maximum efficiency and commercial returns.

Established experience of formally managing products and building relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Clear understanding of use of internet technology and its application to CPD training and retailing.

Ability to demonstrate commercial acumen with strong negotiating and influencing skills.

Ability to take responsibility for the planning, implementation and delivery of projects across a number of business units.

Ability to assess market trends with a commercial and strategic awareness.

Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills.

Comfortable working under pressure and to tight deadlines.

Proven track record of team and business leadership along with influencing and situational leadership skills necessary to manage a cross-functional team.

Desirable

Knowledge of current and general issues within the legal profession.
